The general recommendation is that the backup and verify should
be done automatically at night when the system is NOT in use, each
and every day. Always use full backups. Do NOT use incremental
backup techniques.
Printed and/or email logs should be generated and checked daily, to
confirm that the backup process is completing successfully.
Your backup is your only way of restoring the company data, in the
case of major hardware failure. Contact Texada Support immediately
if there are any errors or questions about this process or about
the backup/verify log results.
Backups should never be performed during the day or while there is system activity because the backup will not have referential integrity. In the case of NT, a backup while the system is in use, runs the real risk of actual data loss and corrupt files if your chosen backup software cannot resolve file sharing issues.
1. LINUX ======= - recommended software is LoneTar - SCO LINUX...automated through install process - other Unixes...can also be automated, contact SCS Hardware Support 2. NT ===== - recommended software is Cheyenne ArcServe - logs have to be manually checked, as most NT backup software does NOT support printing the log
